İZMİR ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM

The Artist-in-Residence program in İzmir was held between February 2nd and 9th, 2020.  Tomislav Brajnović was the conducting artist-in-residence of the program, while the participating artists-in-residence selected through the open call were Ayçe Su Duran, Şebnem Yüksel and Ufuk Şenel. İzmir based artists Cansu Pelin İşbilen, Fatih Gençkal, Sarp Keskiner and Serenay Oğuz contributed to the program as well.

The artists worked together for a week in Karantina independent art space, and at the end of the process, they shared their work with the audience through the conference titled “Dance in Between” at the İzmir French Institute on the 8th of February. The performative conference was shaped around the following questions:

  • How can we protect ourselves from digital dictatorship?
  • What is the purpose of art?
  • What is the purpose of conversation?
  • Can ethics be taught?
  • What makes art relevant?
  • What does it mean to be relevant?
